NOMADPLANS UPDATE
2017, a year for us of great change, learning and doing things differently. Finding a new way, dancing to our own tune and exploring possibilities. High on our agenda was taking advantage of opportunities and seeing the world outside of “designated” holiday time.
Taking the plunge to leave our jobs in education, in July 2016, to relocate, pause and “reset” in order to create a “time rich” lifestyle has taught us a thing or two. Creating and maintaining a website, delving into the world of social media and thinking about how this can generate an income is a task quite far removed from the world of delivering assemblies, teaching and supporting children, staff and parents!
Leaving an environment of routine, structure, bells and whistles, to do our own thing has had its advantages but requires a new “self-imposed” regime. I’m not quite sure how we did all we had to do as well as go to work… well actually I do know. Existing as opposed to living, operating on autopilot, running on adrenaline in a constant state of stress and “fight mode.”
We decided that 2017, had to be about juggling a few balls. Travel, of course, is what we love to do. The best way to travel and where & when was up for discussion. Having previously been “restricted” to travel outside term time, a whole new world of possibilities opened up.
From the Mediterranean to the USA on a rather splendid ship!
In our first “term” of freedom, before the close of 2016, we did an amazing road trip around Utah’s National Parks. November was a fabulous time to visit, albeit a bit chilly. Where were the anticipated crowds? For the majority of the time, it was just us! We also went to New Orleans, Miami and Las Vegas, arriving in Miami on a transatlantic cruise from Barcelona, which we hopped on the day we disembarked from a magical Mediterranean jaunt with our friends.
In January 2017, we started the year with a trip to Florida, then headed off to India. Later that year, Portugal, France, Latvia and Lithuania. Our most recent trip was to China, a wonderful experience. In between our travels, we launched our website and took advantage of being near the Lake District.
Our favourite photographs following the “reset.”
To follow is a collection of our favourite photographs, taken by Kerry, since our “life change.” We may well have taken a huge risk in taking a step into the unknown but when I look at our pictures & recall the joy, the adventures, the cultures and “moments” we have shared, they are worth far more than any other “stuff.” We have bought ourselves “time” – and have definitely made the most of it!
What’s next?
I hope you have enjoyed looking at our photographs, from our travel since the “reset.” This year is going to be about upping our productivity around our business, launching our lifestyle program and topping up our travel pot. Although, we kicked the year off with Mexico, Costa Rica and Cuba. Look out for our upcoming posts.
